it's been super icky most of the time i've been here, i've had to run from place to place under an umbrella. i will not let that discourage me from thinking this is a spectacular place that has a very different climate than montreal...i hope.

apartment hunting has been....interesting. it's a little bit of a culture shock in terms of what kind of a living space our money will get us. we have been very spoiled living montreal and paying the very little amount of rent we have been, that is for sure. oh well, we will make the best of it and make sure we find a place we feel comfortable in and in an area that lets us appreciate the city. i have had fun exploring and seeing the city and know that it will be a fun new adventure living here. all is well and here is to new beginnings.

came across this amazing brand and i automatically thought their designs were so pretty but when i read about the designers and the brand's philosophy and that's when i fell in love. their brand statement is simple: "bario-neal is handcrafted in philadelphia with reclaimed precious metal, ethically-sourced stones, and low-impact, environmentally conscious practices."

all of the jewelry hand made and uses 100% reclaimed metals where possible, the diamonds come from canada where they are ethically sourced and they work with a local, nonprofit, nongovernmental organization called the tanzania women miner's association (tawoma) to source coloured gemstones.

anyways, so many good things they do besides producing really lovely pieces of jewelry, read about all their efforts here.

i just really love the fluidity and organic feel of all the pieces and the knot ring is so simple and cute!

so, there are some things changing in my life. geographically, career-ally and mentally. i'm re focusing on things that me feel complete and going back to my roots. i'm really looking forward to starting back up with designing and making jewelry because it's what i've always gotten the most pleasure out of in anything i've done career-wise. i'm working on a new collection and can't wait to share.
oh, and i'm moving to boston, did i not mention that? yep, i'm leaving the wonderful city that is montreal for a little taste of new england life. i think this geographical change helped me make the change i'm hoping to make and with where i see myself in 5 years.
anyways, here's to change. xo

made some very satisfying purchases as of late, one is on my person right now and the other i am anxiously awaiting delivery of!

i bought these modern vintage "janet" riding boots recently (actually, mine are a more faded brown) for a steal! finally, end of winter sales are good this year. these boots are the beginning of a departure for me, i only own black or gray boots and heels and maybe one pair of coloured flats. i'm introducing this earth tone to my drab existence and maybe a new me will emerge this spring.

second thing i am so excited about is mr. kate bow ring! eek, can't wait for this little gem to pop up in my deliveries within 2-4 weeks.

i'm not a huge fan of american apparel and though i want to shop there because of all that non sweat shop produced goodness they churn out, i'm just a little creeped out by their "image" (you know what i'm talking about, you've seen their ads).
however, they may have me wandering their shops once more because i love the nail polishes they came out with! I picked up "factory gray" and couldn't be happier. if you know me you know i loves me some gray. i'm also going back for more because they also sell them for a steal, $18 for 3. I'm loving "office", a minty green (inspired by an accounting notepad used at their dtla head office) and "dynasty", a light lilac.

and get this, not only are they formaldehyde free (yay!) but the bottles are filled by a 91-year-old lady from NYC and not some poor child working for pennies a day. look good, feel good.

as an independent artist myself, i am all about supporting the indie community by buying handmade treasures to adorn myself, however, what girl does not appreciate a diamond encrusted bauble from an esteemed and world renowned jeweller such as say, van cleef and arpels?

to celebrate their 70th year in america, v&a are launching a 100 one-of-kind piece collection called "california rêverie". the pieces will be introduced in their first ever us store in los angeles.

i love seeing jewellery that will be sold for more than a house plus a car being made, something about seeing it in raw form is magical. it ends up being so shiny and sparkly but starts out so rough and deconstructed.

this white gold lovely (it's a palmier collier that can be worn as a brooch or necklace) will only set you back $1.5 million, mheh.

i really liked last years campaign by the peoples people with zooey, but I have to say this year's campaign photos are stunning. elijah wood, mheh, shirley manson, va va voom. love her and glad to see she's still relevant today.

ok, so a little behind the times with this post. to be honest, i was seriously trying to figure out if i should take OC seriously with their whole "where the wild things are" line of clothing. i mean, taking clothing design inspiration from movies is nothing new, but introducing a line of clothing based on fictional monsters, complete with fur and horns? i was really thinking they were having a laugh believing people would wear that stuff. anyways, i have fallen in love with the line of jewellery pamela love designed for the brand in honour of the movie. really cool looking and something i can take seriously. ;)

i have been shopping up a storm lately and can't help but give in to temptation when things are on sale! i'm wanting all sorts of things but am also trying to keep to the basics and figuring out what key pieces are important and only focusing on those.

here are some of my summer/fall must haves:

i looooove jewellery (it is the main focus my job, after all) so starting off my list is big rings and a kick ass statement necklace.

YSL rings, can't get enough. they're big, gaudy and gorgeous. yummers. i love this ring from kara by kara ross. so sublime, perfect for every occasion.

necklaces are always a staple, and statement pieces always come back in style so go big or go home. this missoni necklace is so perfect, i wouldn't need to wear any other accessory, just jeans and a black t-shirt.

ok, summer is here after all but i'm starting to think towards fall because this summer has been such a huge let down. for jeebus' sake, it even smells like fall!

so, i think this DVF coat is perfect for my fall plans of apple picking and fall walks through central park (it might happen).and this rebecca taylor sweater would be perfect for right now seeing as how it's so cold at night here. :( but i do love cozying up over sweating it out on a muggy evening so maybe it's for the best.
these miu miu boots are just the shiz so they're just a necessity.

ok, so there you have it. my must haves, for fall. hmph, summer shopping isn't too exciting for me lately because like i said, it's been a bummer.

ok, i absolutely adore martha stewart. say what you will but i love the things she does; she's crafty, knows how to make a house a home, loves animals, wants to teach people what she knows and really does try to make a difference in the world. i wasn't able to watch this episode of her show (i don't have tivo or a tvr thingy) so i checked in with her blog to get the scoop and this particular one had me cracking up! she had snoop dogg on to show her how to make his mum's recipe for mashed potatoes and here is what she took away from interview she had with him:"...And then yesterday, the multi-platinum rap artist, Snoop Dogg, appeared on my television show and taught me some of his very own language called Snoop-guistics. He and his posse add ‘izzles’ onto the ends of words. It’s kind of a code, or a way of communicating so that others won’t know what they’re talking about. Example: fo shizzle is how they say, for sure. Snoop Dogg also shared –

next spring is going to be about big bold accessories (when isn't it all about the big accessories?) and tribal seems to be the theme, but i think i want to start wearing this collection right now.
i love these pieces from missoma. the designs are inspired by apache indian tribal motifs and organic forms. i was drawn to the colours of the stones and i'm really into gold right now, even though they're saying silver is the new gold because it's cheaper. (i just think it looks so nice with everything!)

i love antique jewellery and even covet the baubles of my grandmother, and sometimes i am fortunate enough that she bestows a treasure from her decadent vintage collection upon me.
this site features antique pieces from the victorian era to art deco to modernist. my favorite things are the rings! it's also neat for someone looking for antique engagement rings because they are all so unique.

i was fortunate enough to snag an invite to the s/s 09 show for soia & kyo. cool show, though it's unfair to get excited about light spring jackets when the harshness of winter is looming....anyways, i enjoyed it. i saw some really nice leather jackets which is something to look forward to and the colours were perfect for spring. also, lots of cropped sleeves which i adore for warmer seasons...can't wait!

so, we are waiting impatiently for our lola sofa to arrive....still waiting. in all fairness, it is being handmade to our specifications in vancouver, so it being a truly canadian product makes me exceptionally happy. though, 8 weeks is a painfully long time to wait especially when your trusty futon from your bygone "student" days is suffering so very badly :(
we've also got the re-decorating bug and i have come across some things that would make lola feel more at home.....

here is our couch,sorta (we have dark wooden legs and it's a darker gray)

and i'm thinking cushions with this fabric from daisyjanie would look smart

had fantastic weekend, i made thanksgiving dinner for the fotheringham clan and feasted something fierce! some food was experimental (asparagus with almond sauce, buttered spaghetti squash with parmesan cheese), but i think i have found my classics. i found a recipe for sausage stuffing that i have made two years in a row and i think is super yummy. i made my favorite side, cranberry sauce with bright, beautiful fresh cranberries and dark brown sugar; i'm doing it this way from now on, no more frozen cranberries and white sugar! joe's mum baked a scrumptious pumpkin pie, we still have leftovers that I am savouring.

anyways, weren't able to make to les vergers lafrance to pick apples this year, but found some crazy/cute pumpkins at the atwater market :) we had a mini carving contest, and it was tough to pick a winner so everybody won for good spirit!

I even made a centre piece, martha stewart would be proud, and the food looked good (although my marshmallows for the sweet potatoes weren't browned due to poor time management on my part, oops)

lol, unfortunately the spaghetti squash was not my favorite....

such a cute idea. i'm for sure getting one of these shirts from Dahl + Dane = True Love Always for myself, with the name of my beloved, mr. f {le sigh}. i just like how there are different shirt styles and colours. there are even organic options and their dyes are waterbased, so good for your heart and good for mama earth.fyi - the design duo are an adorable couple, Dahl and Dale. Dahl (Alison Kelly) designs clothes and is from project runway fame and Dale is from the band salt and samovar.

ok, obviously my my blog life was not complete; i only just realized this after i found the blog, cute overload through martha's blog. i love animals, so much so that i do not have any....doesn't make sense does it? i had the most wonderful and adorable guinea pig, isobel, and when she passed, i was so distraught. i get very emotional over animals so until someone discovers how to make pets live forever and be healthy, i will be on this site loving the cute animals i see. :)

I think it's really classy to have calling cards. Not business cards, but a little card you can just give and say, "Here's my card, gimme a call sometime." (lol, because I meet so many people and really want to have phone conversations with them all!)
It would be nice to have these for the occasions you do meet people you want to keep in touch with. ;)

I received my new Domino mag. and after reading the little spread about vanities, fell in love. I want one! Don't know how the mr. would feel about it in our way open open-concept pad that we are trying to keep gender neutral, but I think I need to find a way to work one into our boudoir.

These were my favorites, probably because they are so girly, and jewellery laden.....

ok, I have been dying to talk about how excited I am that The Hills is back. I was giddy when I watched the premiere on Monday! I wanted to do a little recap of my own, but I found this overview over at I Heart you and it was as hilarious as all the hilarity that IS The Hills, love it!

It's even made of how Lauren's high school fling , Doug (who she's on a date with after not seeing him since high school), asks her, "What have you been up to for the past four years?". Like, for real? He's asking her this like she hasn't had a camera following her around taping her for an MTV REALITY show. Buddy, order the box set of season 1, 2, & 3 and get up to speed! lol, precious.

Lilleashop.com is so much fun to shop on! It's full of eye candy and showcases work from the likes of Lisa Neimeth, Melissa Joy Manning and Kiln Enamel just to name a few.

My fav. piece; Hand embroidered and beaded turquoise and crystal necklace. Designed by Dori Csengeri from Tel Aviv. Stunning, I think his craftsmanship is like none other.

This beautiful decorative plate also caught my eye, among tonnes of other gorgeous plates and tableware. Designed by John Derian, an avid collector of antique fruit, flower and animal prints, hand-paints borders over centuries-old ledgers and letters.

Our camping weekend went off without a hitch, although it went by so fast. Lot's of yummy food and fresh air. My mum and sister made the trek in their little boler and it looked adorable.

We're going camping with my mum and little sis this weekend, and really roughing it. Nicolle just emailed me to say she's excited about the hot tub and the hay ride because it's western weekend at the campsite, I'm talking about bare wilderness here! lol. (I'll put pictures up after the weekend.)

There are two things I'm really happy about today; H&M is opening on St. Catherines st., WOO HOO!!! I have been desperately waiting for a downtown H&M in Montreal since they opened too many out in suburbia, out of reach from all of us urbanites.

Ok, so the second thing I'm really happy about is my showcase on Etsy, yay! Here it is, stop by the shop when you get a chance. xo

I get such a warm feeling from the clothes Williamson makes, his prints are amazing and the silhouettes are something I can for sure wear. I love his work for Pucci and especially am loving this Fall/Winter collection from his own label, if only I had the champagne budget to drown myself in his clothing. I need these clothes, I need the whole collection!!!! (Minus the furry stuff because, ethically, I cannot call that fashion.)

I just bought some fabric and I am over the moon!!!! I cannot, repeat CANNOT wait to get it! I have some tentative plans for it; I'm thinking about Christmas gifts and I'm attempting to make some goodies for the loved ones in my life. I'm thinking bedding and maybe an ornamental something or other, I am just swimming in the possibilities! (lol, I even know geeky this all sounds.)

I love make-up, here are the products I'm loving right now:

5. Cover Girl Clean Make-up-I believe in classics and this stuff has been with me forever! I still use it in the summer because it's light and the smell brings back such good memories.

4. Rimmel Glameyes Mascara-I just bought this and am thoroughly impressed. :) It goes on super smooth and really adds length.

3. Bourjois-I'm actually grouping a few things together here; the bronzing powder they make is fantastic! It gives just the right colour for my skin tone and smells like chocolate. I also bought the little bronzing brush that goes with it and it's the perfect size. I'm also loving their "Brun" wet/dry eyeshadow, it's really natual looking and doesn't crease. (I also have a little confession to make; I really love these products because Bourjois is owned by Chanel and I'm conviced it's the same product a quarter of the price!)

2. Estée Lauder High Gloss in "Honey"-I like wearing this gloss because it's not too sticky and doesn't feel "cakey" after I've had it on for a while, it also really smells/tastes like honey, yum.

1. NARS Blush in "Orgasm"-There's no need to explain, this stuff is the best. I don't go a day without putting it on (as well as mascara). I'm very fair skinned and it makes me look like I have some life in me, not like I'm wearing blush!

Hasbro is celebrating My Little Pony's 25th anniversary with the "My little Pony Project" where 25 artists design a Pony. The project is to raise funds for "Give Kids the World Village" and each Pony is auctioned off for the charity.
On the site there is only a taste of what has been created; I like the one by Catalina Estrada the most. xo

I'm loving these two blogs lately, although they make me feel like I live in the most boring apartment and that I need to re-decorate all the time. I'm always getting ideas and making up new wishlists for our place so these are great places for inspiration!

Poppytalk is really neat and has all sorts of tips, tricks and neat wares for the home.

Design*Sponge is ultra cool and features all sorts of things from decor to jewellery and neat things from cities all over.

Yay! We did actually make it to La Ronde, whew. I felt so sick after the last rollercoaster, sooo sick :s lol, but I would do it all again in a second! I'm glad we went and as we were about to go on the last ride of the day, the lightning and thunder started...lucky!

lol, ok I don't make cupcakes or cookies here but I do make a type of sweet delight; my jewellery! This is where I toil away and Joe actually made me this bench with his Dad as a Christmas gift one year, how amazing is that?!
It's in a great spot to be creative because it's right by the window and I'm like a plant in that I need sunlight for energy, or else I just want to sleep. I also have a sort of "inspiration board" thing going where I just put up random things that I like or inspire my thought process. I like to put my ticket stubs from shows we've seen or the Operas Joe has taken me to as well as the little drawings I've done.
